It occurs to me that collectively we might have some really “Good Green Ideas” for Christmas giving that we could be sharing. ‘Tis the Season after all, and we might develop quite a formidable source list for each other were we to pool our efforts. Send me YOUR best ideas and I’ll circulate them–maybe even on our website once we find out how (eccolov.org). Phil? Mike?
❄ With that in mind, a top drawer gift, or even stocking stuffer could be our very own Climate Change T-Shirts, many of which were sold at the recent Summit. I’ll attach a photo taken then, but they are preshrunk, medium weight, sage green, 100% organic cotton T’s by AnvilOrganic, with the Earth Charter logo patch on the front. On the back is printed, “The Earth is in Our Hands” and lists “10 Simple Things YOU Can Do” (to live more sustainably), and lists thereunder: 1. Use Recycled Paper and Plastic Products, 2. Switch off the boiler while on vacation, 3. Use clotheslines, instead of dryer . . . etc. It really is a very nice garment, sells for $10, and can be either picked up at my home, or I’ll post them for the extra cost charged us of $6.00 to most locales in region.
❄ Another dynamite idea is Carbon offsets from Earth Carbon Offsets! In addition to reducing and recapturing greenhouse gasses, they help preserve tropical habitat, reduce erosion, and help local economies. Available in increments of one ton, or buy 10 tons (about a year’s emissions) at a discount. BONUS: the one-year program arrives in a sustainably-grown teak planter filled with organic coffee, basil seeds, and earth-friendly coir soil–a $29.95 value! CALL 1-888-314-1966 to order. #37-865.
Earth Carbon Offsets at $18 per ton.
Buy 10 or more tons at $15 per ton, with FREE Teak Planter
❄ Or for something very unique, how about your own personal sized Labyrinth from HeartStoneLabyrinth?!! Call our original Santa Claus, Greg Coleman, 873-1472.
❄ Some Good Green Dining Gift Certificates can be had at the well-known River Tavern, 23 Main St. in Chester, 526-9417. Ditto at the award-winning It’s Only Natural Restaurant at 386 Main St in Middletown, 860-538-7633.
❄ Or for the health buff, a bottle or two of Mona Vie, the latest and hottest health drink from Mike Harris or associates, 873-8989, or mharris@harris-mgmt.com.
❄ Or the excellent Green embroidery on organic materials from Ark Embroidery by Olivia Leary in Colchester, at arkembroidery@msn.com.
❄ Ballek’s Garden Center will make you some creative Sustainable Garden Kits that include all one needs to begin a flower or vegetable patch, and all the advice you’ll need to get it going! 873-8878.
❄ And Burgundy Books, “A few steps from the Goodspeed,” has a wonderful selection of books on anything sustainable, green, or otherwise Earth friendly. 873-9312.
❄ June’s Knit Designs – organic knit materials handsomely crafted by June Cassidy of Manchester might be your pick. Contact her at jjc512@cox.net, or 860-432-4374.
❄ An item I’d always love in my stocking would be a gift certificate to Professional Therapeutic Massage, whom I can highly recommend! Carol Wierzbinski and her very professional staff will make you feel like new at their studio at 139 So. Main St, Colchester, 860-537-1915. Or how about a workout certificate to WOW Fitness Workout World at 840 Washington St in Middletown? Give them a call at 347-1268. Or maybe a gift of Karate Instruction at Valley Short Martial Arts in Centerbrook. Check ‘em out at www.valleyshoremartialarts.com or call at 860-767-1014.
❄ And wrap these gifts in the fanciest, most creative wrapware I’ve seen yet...and it’s reusable! Look at the pictures and short video on www.joelljacob.com or talk to Joell Jacob at 860-767-7555. Very cool invention!
All of the above were among the advertisers and exhibitors at our Climate Change Summit, and we’re happy to recommend all of them!
But one of our favorite gift spots of the last several years has been Alternative Gifts International at www.alternativegifts.org/projects/ where you can help change the world one goat or pig or waterhole at a time!
And of course there are lots more ideas, so let’s hear from YOU!
